South Norfolk Farmhouse
The Brief
The aim was to create an elevated, elegant, and wildlife-friendly garden, incorporating low carbon footprint practices to ensure sustainability.
Embracing the modern English garden style, I was tasked with designing a large countryside garden attached to a Grade II listed house within a Conservation Area.
The Design
My design concept combines formality and informality, seamlessly weaving throughout the entire garden.
In the pursuit of enhancing the plot's full potential, I meticulously planned the layout to encourage the utilisation of various garden rooms - including the rear terrace, formal wildlife pond and gravel garden, potager, morning terrace, Betula glade & meadow, and a woodland walk - each maintaining a sense of intimacy and charm.
The informality of the waves of perennial meadow offers high impact planting and serves as a haven for pollinators, complemented by the formality of clipped yew and beech hedges acting as markers and sentinels.
Pleached malus trees, sight lines, pea shingle paths, and a rustic kitchen garden gracefully come together, harmonising the house with its natural surroundings. Our design intent seeks to create a stunning interplay between natural beauty and architectural elements, resulting in a timeless and captivating countryside garden.
